For the second year in a row, teams will compete to build dreams through sports & education
Tuesday, Feb. 11th — Philadelphia Baseball Training and The Hamels Foundation are proud to announce their partnership for youth tournament season for a second consecutive year. The Hamels Foundation, co-founded by former Phillies star pitcher Cole Hamels and his wife Heidi, supports quality, community-based education across the globe. They assist U.S. schools and other education-based nonprofits to provide stimulating learning environments, high-quality educational programs, and necessary provisions to promote learning. One of their major projects is focused on building a fully functioning school campus for children in grades 1 – 8 in the Namunda Village, located in the Mulanje District of Malawi, Africa. Last year saw over 40 teams from age 8U-14U compete all weekend long battling to capture their bracket championship. Instead of presenting each winning team with trophies, each team presented a $500 check towards the Namunda Primary School’s sports facility. In total, over $4,000 was raised and was a tremendously successful weekend. The Hamels Foundation was on site selling merchandise, spreading awareness, and raffling off some awesome prizes including Cole Hamels autographed memorabilia.
This year, our mission is to change lives and improve communities around the globe through quality educational resources and opportunities. How are we going to accomplish this? By teaming up with the Hamels Foundation, we’re building dreams through sports and education. Sports have proven to have a positive impact on educational outcomes including academic performance, greater inclusivity, and participation in the classroom, as well as improvements to student health and preparedness for the future. By supporting The Hamels Foundation Memorial Day Tournament, you’ll be making a direct impact on the completion of the school campus for the children of the Namunda Village.
Our seven age bracket champions will each present a $500 check courtesy of Philly Baseball Tournaments again this year in support of Project Malawi. Be on the lookout for The Hamels Foundation display Memorial Day weekend to get a chance to win awesome raffle items, donate, and to learn more about their amazing efforts to empower underprivileged children with education. The Memorial Day Tournament for Education will begin Friday, May 22nd at 6 p.m. through Sunday, May 24th at the Newtown Edgmont Little League.
